Window Hero Heats Up the Holiday

Temperatures are dropping in Charlotte, but local business owners are doing their part to bring a little warmth to homeowners in need.

It may be the most wonderful time of the year, but for some families it is also a time of stress and financial hardship. As natural gas and electricity costs continue to rise, many households are finding it difficult to keep up with heating bills and other utilities.

Charlotte charity organizations have seen an increased need for assistance this year, and it is growing.

Inflation is also playing a part in financial insecurity this year. Groceries prices are up 12% from last year, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. For households that are already struggling, those extra costs can mean choosing between food, essentials, and utility bills.

For members of the community who are facing these challenges, a little help can make a big difference. Local business owners Jonathan Roberts and Bob Kennedy saw the need and came up with a plan to help homeowners with their utility bills this winter.

Roberts reached out to his network, quickly assembling a group of business owners who wanted to be involved.

Local Window Hero owner Tyler Kirk was happy to help. “I just wanted to be a part of this.”

Speaking with Roberts, Kirk thought back to his own life experiences. “I’ve had times in my life when was in that position. I was so grateful to the people who were able to help me get through the tough times.”

Window Hero joins eleven other local businesses to assist in covering utilities for two Charlotte families this winter. He says, “We all get so focused on our own lives. It’s important to remember our neighbors; not just around the holidays, but all year round.”

The group of business owners will work with local churches and non-profits to choose the families to receive utility assistance.

Whitlock Builders, Skidmore Surveying, Shingles Roof Direct, Safeguard Insurance, Window Hero, Charlotte Heating and Air Conditioning, Grattan Pest Solutions, Chiodo Custom Painting, Hunter & Chandler Law Group PLLC, Greenfrog Waterproofing, and ALCOVA Mortgage all answered the call to help these members of the community.
